The Consultations...

three sets of questions to consider.

The consultations asked that all laity and clergy with an interest in the diocese have an opportunity to comment on its future. Consultations were held for individual parishes, Deanery clergy and pastoral workers, religious orders, new ecclesial movements, ethnic chaplaincies and individuals.

Three sets of questions were used:

Consultation in the Parish ...
  1. What is our vision for the Parish of the future?
  2. What are the evident points of growth in our Parish Community?
  3. How effectively can this Parish support a neighbouring parish?
  4. In what ways could a neighbouring parish support us?
  5. How could we, as the parish community, better support our Parish Priest(s)?
  6. How do we see the future of our parish?
You are invited as a parish community to respond to the above questions in the way you think most appropriate. Please include ideas and opinions that may have been discussed which do not fall within the framework of the questions, if they would provide useful information about the profile of your Parish and its future.

Laity and Religious of the Parish
  1. What is our vision as the Catholic Community in this part of the Diocese?
  2. How could the parishes of this Deanery better work together/assist one another, to attain this vision?
  3. In the light of 1) and 2) above, is the Catholic Community of our Deanery best served by the current position of Parish Churches and parish boundaries?
  4. Are all the parishes of the Deanery viable and sustainable?
  5. What four priorities would we wish the Diocese to have for the next six years, to 2010?
Priests and Pastoral Workers
  1. If fewer priests are available, which parish(es) could best continue without a resident priest (or with a reduced number of priests?
  2. Are there parishes in this Deanery which could benefit from joining/sharing resources with a neighbouring parish?
  3. Are there other models of Church and Parish which bear consideration, e.g. Team ministry, clustering, etc?
The reports from all these meetings will be gathered with other consultations of the priests, religious Parishes, the Religious, Ethnic Chaplaincies, Diocesan Agencies and New Movements, and put to the Analysis Group for synthesis and coordination of all feedbacl from the consultations.
